CIG Open Meeting, a New Intern and an Excursion to the Argolid on May 12th
CIG Open Meeting
On Wednesday, May 9th at 7:00 PM at the auditorium of the Danish Institute at Athens at Odos Herefondos 14A in the Plaka will be the annual Open Meeting of the Canadian Institute in Greece. I will report on the activities of the Institute in 2011/12 and the fieldwork and study seasons conducted under the aegis of the Institute in 2011 at Argilos (Macedonia), Kastro Kallithea (Thessalia), Eleon (Boiotia) and Leukos (Karpathos). The Invited Lecture will be given by Prof. Nigel Kennell (College Year in Athens). The title of his lecture is “Children and Youth in the Spartan Mirage”. A reception will follow.
New Intern from York University
Our annual summer intern from York University has just arrived! She is Laura Beaton from Aurora, Ontario. Laura is a well-travelled third year Anthropology and English major. She is interested in archaeology and in tourism. During her three months in Athens she will work on various projects in the Library. You’ll have a chance to meet her at the Open Meeting.
An Excursion to the Argolid on May 12th
The Association of the Friends of the Historical Archive of the Archaeological Service is also organizing an interesting day excursion to the Argolid on Saturday, May 12th. The excursion will visit the Museum at Mycenae and the recently reopened Archaeological Museum at Nafplio followed by lunch in picturesque Nafplio. On the way back there will be a winery visit. The departure from central Athens will be at 8:30 AM, returning around 7:00 PM. The pickup location will be announced next week. The excursion is open to the members of the Association, their friends, the CIG community and fellow travelers. The cost is 10 Euro for members of the Association of Friends and 15 Euro for others. The museum entrances and lunch are each individual’s responsibility. To save a place (or better yet, places!) on the pullman bus, please write to me by May 10th at: drupp@brocku.ca or call me at: 6947272153.
Cordially,
David Rupp
