Every May we highlight the activities and the archaeological research of the Institute over the past year at our Open Meeting. The Open Meeting will take place on Wednesday, May 17th at 19:00 at the Danish Institute in Athens (Odos Herefondos 14A, Plateia Ayias Aikaterinis, Plaka).
I will review our many activities and events in 2016/17 as well as describe the significant results of the four archaeological fieldwork projects and one study season that have a permit from the Hellenic Ministry of Culture and Sport under the aegis of the Institute. Following my remarks Professor Rodney Fitzsimons of Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario will give a lecture entitled, "It Takes More Than a Village to Raise a House: Labour Investment, Urbanisation, and the Socio-Political Landscape of Archaic Crete". This lecture is based on his work as the architect at the ongoing American School excavations at the Archaic settlement at Azoria above Kavousi in eastern Crete.

Welcome Cana!
Each summer we welcome a student from York University in North York, Ontario as an intern for three months. They are assigned projects relating to our Library collections and to our Archives. This past Monday Cana Fallon joined us as the latest intern.
Cana is a fourth-year undergraduate student at York University. She is in the International Bachelor of Arts program which includes focuses on international relations and foreign language and cultural studies, in addition to her major in Humanities. Her broad major has allowed her to take many courses in anthropology, urban planning and architecture, history, politics and philosophy which led her to an interest in Greece. She has previously studied at Yonsei University in South Korea and holds an English teaching certification. Post-graduation she intends to teach internationally before pursuing her Master’s degree.
This is Cana’s first visit to Greece, and she intends to visit as many museums and beautiful Greek islands as she can. She particularly wants to experience the historic architecture of Athens, explore the libraries and begin learning the Greek language during her stay. She hopes her summer in Greece will enrich her global and cultural understanding, and direct her towards new academic opportunities in the future.
Our many friends and supporters will have an opportunity to meet Cana at the Open Meeting on the 17th. So at the reception please introduce yourself and welcome her to our community!
